How far in advance should I plan my writing retreat?

This week’s tip is probably the most important one I’ll ever share. If you’ve never hosted a writing retreat before and don’t already have a venue, give yourself nine to twelve months to plan it.

While most of the time will be organizing and planning the details, you’ll need to budget plenty of time for marketing and making people aware of your retreat. This is especially true if you don’t already have an email list or social media followers you can easily reach out to.

I don’t say this to discourage you from hosting a writing retreat. Quite the opposite. I want you to go into the planning process with as much information as possible so you’re not surprised and discouraged by how much lead time you need.

If you’ve planned a writing retreat before, how far in advance did you start planning it?
