When you should start looking for a writing retreat venue

Don’t start looking for a writing retreat venue too soon.

Before you can book the perfect place, you’ll need to know a few things:

  • The maximum number of spots at your retreat to make sure the venue has enough bedrooms.
  • Types and number of spaces for group or one on one activities.
  • Your dates and duration of the retreat.
  • Type of setting (urban, rural, mountains, ocean, etc).
  • All inclusive or not.
  • Proximity to an airport or train station.

And don’t forget to think about how easy it will be for you to get there.

These will get you started. As you plan your writing retreat, you may think of other things that are important to you in a location and venue.

Make sure you have it all written down so you have it handy when you call potential venues.

What’s your experience been with booking venues for your writing retreat? Did you come prepared with a list of questions before booking?
